Creative Writing Tuition…

Miriam has been a fantastic teacher for my granddaughter. She helped her with her writing and vocabulary and encouraged her to read a wide range of books. Her lessons were always fun, so much so that my granddaughter wanted her to continue forever!
My granddaughter wrote a few words that best describe her: ‘Miriam is a great teacher. She has helped me improve my English and pass my exams. She makes everything fun and exciting.’ We cannot thank you enough Miriam. Best teacher ever.
— Sukhbir (grandmother)
My kids used to hate writing until we started lessons with Miriam. She was quick to understand our needs, finding new ways of making learning fun and creative. She has also catered her approach as they have grown older. I’m very pleased with the lessons.

Miriam works with our two daughters aged 9 and 10 on their creative writing. She has in a short time helped both our daughters build on their love of reading and writing and made creative writing really exciting and fun for them both. Miriam provides regular feedback, has really got to know both our girls and supports me with ways I can build their confidence and skills in between sessions.

Teaching adults how to improve their writing at work…

We would like to thank Miriam so much for the course she ran for our team. It was excellently tailored to our needs and our team’s context. Miriam was wonderfully clear and made the course really accessible to everyone.

A couple of specific messages from members of the team: “Miriam has re-energised my motivation for writing” and “As a life-long “Powerpointer”, I now feel like Word and written prose are back on the table for me!”.

We would heartily recommend Miriam to anyone wanting to improve their writing. Thank you so much!

Editing and manuscript feedback…

Miriam is a truly talented editor with a fantastic ability to see not just the structural work that needs doing or the small changes that can help but most importantly the true vision of what the author is trying to achieve. She has the enviable knack of explaining her thoughts with clarity and precision and manages to always make the author feel positive and confident. I feel extremely lucky to have been able to make use of her skills as an editor.
— Lorraine Gregory, author of MOLD AND THE POISON PLOT and THE MAKER OF MONSTERS (OUP)
Miriam has one of the strongest grasps of the mechanics of a novel I have encountered. She has an amazing ability to spot where problems might be in structure, plot and pace, as well as the ability to explain it clearly and sensitively. Countless times she has provided me with the key to making major leaps forward in tackling structural edits.
— Meira Drazin, author of HONEY AND ME (Scholastic, 2022)
Miriam’s feedback was the turning point in the process allowing me to complete my manuscript to a level where I felt happy submitting to agents. She was positive and constructive in equal measure, which was reassuring and incredibly productive. I would highly recommend Miriam’s services. She made me feel at ease quickly and was very responsive to my queries.
— Jo Clarke, book blogger and author of LIBBY AND THE PARISIAN PUZZLE, (Firefly, 2022)

Workshops for schools and arts centres…

Miriam was a simply fantastic teacher for the Big Stories in Tiny Packages: Flash Fiction workshop we hosted over the summer holidays. The lesson was perfectly pitched, with a mixture of short writing exercises and group discussion ending up with the children creating a dramatic re-telling of traditional fairy-tales. Miriam’s warmth combined with the interactive exercises enabled the workshop to be successfully adapted for the digital sphere. It was clear that the children delighted in taking part and we would highly recommend the session to other arts venues.
— Harrow Arts Centre Participation Programmer Blanche Fitzgerald
I would highly recommend Miriam’s workshop. It was engaging and challenging with fantastic outcomes that we used to develop a whole writing project from - definitely a morning to remember. Weeks later the children were still reminding me of their revolting metaphors and disgusting descriptions!
— Hannah Joels, Year 4 teacher

Creative writing workshops in north Finchley…

My son has always complained and struggled with creative writing for school, but he absolutely loved Miriam’s mysterious maps workshop this summer. After a few hours with Miriam, he couldn’t stop talking about the worlds he was creating, and how thrilling writing now seemed. She transformed writing from something that was a chore into something that is an art.

Thanks for Friday – Arielle had a great time and would love to do it again. She said it felt like it only lasted about 10 minutes, which I took to mean it flew by as she was having so much fun. I loved that her story revolved around not just trampolining, but specifically trampoline socks!
— Peggy, parent
We all spoke very highly of your workshops afterwards, and Ricco thoroughly enjoyed himself. We’d certainly be keen to book again.
